Brazil is the largest country in South America and is located almost entirely in the southern hemisphere. The Amazon region in the north-west has a tropical climate: humid and hot with temperatures that are always above 30 °C. The dry season is from May to November, this is the best time to visit the rainforest. The Central Highlands of Brazil have a subtropical climate: warm (30-35 °C), but less wet than in the Amazon. The north-east of Brazil, the Sertao, is dry and hot. The south-east has a temperate subtropical climate. This area has four distinct seasons. In summer (December-March) it is 25-30 °C, in winter 20-25 °C. Rain falls throughout the year.
