For the most part Ukraine has a continental climate. In winter when cold air from Siberia enters the country, it can freeze severely for weeks on end. In winter there is often a thick layer of snow. In summer it is warm in the interior (25-30 °C). Most precipitation falls at the start of the summer. May is the best time to travel. The thermometer then shows a pleasant 20 °C and there is not much rain. The area around the Black Sea, with the famous place Odessa and the Crimean peninsula, differs by having a Mediterranean climate.
