The Carpathians form a loop in Romania and separate the country into two climate zones. In the south-east the climate is continental with harsh winters and warm summers. In Bucharest, on the Danube plain, 35 °C in summer is normal. On the Black Sea the average is 25 °C altogether more pleasant. In addition, the guarantee of sunshine is great there. In the north-west the climate is more moderate, the Atlantic Ocean still has a certain influence. In the Carpathians themselves, there is a mountain climate. There is snow from December to late March. In the summer months the area is ideal for trekking.
