The Republic of Montenegro, separated from Serbia and became independent in 2006, has an interesting environment. Right on the Adriatic coast is a Mediterranean weather type. Summers are warm (30 °C), dry and sunny. Ideal for a beach holiday. The rest of the year is extremely wet. The mountain areas even have the highest level of precipitation in Europe (5000 mm per year). There is also a large amount of snow in winter. On the coast there is no real chance of snow, with an average maximum temperature of 12 °C in January.
