The Republic of Macedonia has a moderate continental climate. That means significant temperature differences between summer and winter. In summer, the average is 30 °C, but can sometimes reach in the south 40 °C. Winter in the valleys, such as in the capital Skopje, have a maximum of 5 °C. At night it freezes lightly. Macedonia is very mountainous. In the mountains it is colder and in the winter there is also snow. Here and there are winter sports. June to September are dry and very sunny.
