The forest and water rich Finland has a moderate continental climate. That means large temperature fluctuations between summer and winter. In Helsinki, summer is 21 °C. In winter it freezes lightly during the day. Precipitation falls throughout the year, but mostly in summer. There are considerable differences between north and south. The average annual temperatures for example vary by 7 degrees. Most rain falls in the south and most snow falls in the north. In Lapland -40 °C is regularly measured. Finland is a land for cross-country skiers, but regular skiers can also get their money’s worth.
