The climate in Sierra Leone
Sierra Leone is located in West Africa, just north of the Equator on the Atlantic coast. The country has a tropical monsoon climate. The monsoon lasts from late May to late October. June and August are especially wet. The coastal capital Freetown averages 800 mm per month. It gets drier and warmer as you head north. At the coast the temperature fluctuates between 28 and 32 °C. Inland the fluctuations are greater and the temperature in the warm period, from December to March, averages 35 °C.
